The amazing Ferrari 430 Scuderia 16M has just arrived at Thruxton and we are unique in giving you the opportunity to drive it. Nowhere else in the world is this super available to drive as part of a driving experience. The Ferrari 430 Scuderia 16M is a much more developed version of the standard F430 road car, basically a road legal version of the Ferrari that you see racing in the British and European GT Championships. Visually, it has a much more aggressive stance, sitting lower to the road and more effective aerodynamics with redesigned front and rear bumpers.

The 430 Scuderia 16M is at least 50 kg lighter than the standard car and some of those weight savings come from the cockpit. Two carbon fibre shelled bucket seats with a 4 point harness make sure that you can relax in the seat, firmly held in position but more importantly feel totally at one with the car. There is no interior sound proofing or carpets, you can admire how Ferrari have welded the aluminium monocoque together! The dash and steering wheel, however, are beautifully trimmed with leather, alcantara and carbon fibre with change up lights across the top of the steering wheel. Just out of sight are the paddles behind the wheel to change up and down the gears. The Scuderia has the fastest gearchange of any current production car and now achieves a time that would have been familiar to Michael Schumacher in the middle of his Formula One World Championship winning spree.

The Ferrari 430 Scuderia 16M has an amazing power plant (above) and everything that looks like carbon fibre is carbon fibre! It is lighter and has been engineered to sit lower in the chassis to improve handling. The headline stats are [standard F430 in brackets] 503 bhp @8500 rpm [483 bhp @ 8500 rpm], 347 lb/ft @5250 rpm [343 lb/ft @ 5250 rpm, 373 bhp per tonne [333 bhp per tonne], 116.8 bhp per litre [112 bhp per litre], 0 - 30 in 1.5 sec [2.1], 0 - 60 in 3.4 sec [4.4] and 0 - 100 in 7.4 [9.3].

The image above better shows the difference between the standard Ferrari F430 and the Ferrari 430 Scuderia. The Scuderia has repositioned exhaust pipes, much higher now, so that the rear diffuser can be made larger thereby helping the air accelerate under the car to create a low pressure zone and aerodynamic downforce at high speed. The brakes on both cars are carbon ceramic but larger diameter on the Scuderia. You can clearly see that there is not much clearance room with the lightweight wheels, but in conjunction with specially developed high grip [softer compound] Pirelli tyres they produce incredible stopping power. |
