THUNDER AT THRUXTON

WILD WEEKEND IN WALES!

by Jonathan Reeves

All eyes will now be focussed on the forthcoming Thruxton event on June 14/15) - following the second action-packed round of the 2014 BTRA British Truck Racing Association Championship which took the heavyweights to Pembrey Circuit in Wales for another bruising encounter.

While many of the experienced drivers were busy banging into each other Chris Levett took his Renault to one win and another four podium placings to go top of the tables.

Sharing the equal top overall weekend score of 44 points was the consistent Steve Thomas (MAN) who collected 3 race wins and two fourth place finishes.

The only other driver to get on the top step of the Pembrey podium was Stuart Oliver (Scania) who picked up a win in the second Saturday race - but along with MAN racers Mat Summerfield and David Jenkins he'd probably be pleased to forget much of the weekend.

Richard Collett looked set for a runaway win in the final outing of the weekend - pulling clear of the pack as Ben Horne (MAN) spun on the first turn, taking out three others. But with Thomas reeling him in during the closing stages Ricky ran wide at the chicane on the final lap, gifting the win to his rival as he dropped to third.

But the frantic fights in Division One were perhaps overshadowed by the stunning Division 2 performance of Graham Powell (Renault-Mack) - taking maximum points (50) with a clean sweep of five wins over the Welsh weekend.

Graham had to fight for the silverware though; strong showings from the flying SISU of 'Rookie' Ryan Smith and Steve Powell (Foden) shaking up the points tables. But it was Simon Reid (Iveco) - on the podium in four of the five outings - who left Pembrey leading the Division 2 series.

All eyes will now be focussed on the forthcoming Thruxton event on June 14/15). The high-speed Hampshire track provides a unique and formidable challenge - and the fiercely competitive BTRA Championship is sure to provide plenty more heavyweight thrills!
