About the Aston Martin V8 Tesco driving experience

The Aston Martin V8 Vantage is an English Supercar. The bodywork is like the best bespoke tailoring. It fits beautifully and has a graceful muscular look. There are no extravagant spoilers or scoops to spoil the flowing lines. It achieves the difficult balance of beauty and purpose. A surprisingly compact car, the wheelbase and track dimensions give a hunkered down stance. It looks the business and more importantly, it delivers it. Slide down into the supportive leather seat and thumb the glowing red translucent starter botton. The 4.3-litre V8 instantly explodes into life. Falling naturally to hand is the stubby gear stick. The Graziano box has a definite mechanical feel – changing gear is much more a shoulder rather than wrist action. At 4500rpm, the valves in the exhaust open and the music reaches volume eleven – pure magic! Preparing you for this drive is the more delicate feeling Porsche Cayman. Four laps in this stunning German coupe will ensure you are fully comfortable and confident with the lines and technique of Thruxton Circuit.

Initial laps driven by the instructor in a Mazda3 MPS
Driving on a race circuit is very different to normal road driving. To make the most of the cars you’ll be driving on track you need to learn the ‘racing line’ and braking points. We use the brilliant Mazda3 MPS for these initial laps. One of the most powerful front-wheel drive hatchbacks on the market. Our ARDS qualified race instructors will demonstrate the racing lines and braking points plus other hints and tips to help you get the most from your driving experience. Out on track it may seem quite unfamiliar with no road marks or signs and no cars coming in the other direction, but after 3 laps watching and listening to your race instructor you’ll have built up a good idea of the circuit layout and be confident when you first get behind the wheel and head out on track.

The latest Porsche Cayman is a genuine junior supercar. Similar in looks to the 911 but with a mid-engine layout, this new model has the larger 2.9-litre engine with a 6-speed manual gearbox. If that wasn't enough then the Aston Martin V8 Vantage has even more to give with one of the best sounding engines ever made. Sat on tickover you're aware of it but as the revs increase, the volume goes through the roof as the engine produces a note like no other - something that has to be heard to be believed. The V8 Vantage looks like an English Supercar. Beautiful to look at from every angle but menacing at the same time. Inside, it feels like Saville Row have painstakingly fitted the interior. Out on track, you'll soon appreciate the 50-50 weight distribution as the car feels perfectly balanced on Thruxton's fast sweeping corners.
